A giant rain forest full of tourists, but they
don't distract from the
overpowering scenery. This is 4x4 country, and I'm using long
exposures.
So many exquisite textures and intense colors. The immense scale
is difficult
to convey. |

The light
at the top of the half dome reflects
on the Merced River in the Yosemite National Forest, as mist
rises in the trees.

Standing amidst the ice plants on cliff's
edge,
it is hard to keep the camera steady in the 1st El Nino storm of
1997.
The waves were 15-30 feet high
and the wind was 25 MPH, gusting to 40-50; a stunning and powerful
display. The overcast
shots were south of Big Sur and the sunny shots were Monterey, North. The
boiling water crashed into the
cliffs, sending spray 75-100 feet up
in an endless pattern. |

The waves off Point Lobos rose up in
great swells, with the wind ripping their tops off
in sunlit curtains. The Sea Lions and Seals surfed and fished, enjoying
the challenge. |

At StovePipe Wells, 6:00 A.M. after a
four-day assignment in Los Angeles, I set out to the dunes. It's
raining! An Ohio thunderstorm sky! I'm very
disappointed,
but I set up and the sky parts for 2 minutes - brilliant sun! Then
more rain and overcast
skies the rest of the day. At the motel the owner says it is the most
rain
he has seen in his entire 50 years. |
